DRAFT of RESOLUTION FOR THE CONGRESS AND OBAMA ADMINISTRATION

A RESOLUTION TO THE CONGRESS AND THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION

BY THE CITIZENS OF THE UNITED STATES

THIS IS A DRAFT RESOLUTION FOR REVISION AND FEEDBACK!  FOR LIMITED CIRCULATION UNTIL FINAL.

Be it resolved, in recognition of the financial crisis,  the need to cut spending, and address the serious unemployment issue, that the citizens of the United States DEMAND THAT THE CONGRESS AND THE OBAMA ADMINISTRATION DO THE FOLLOWING:

  1. Immediately cut the salaries of the members of Congress (House and Senate)  and their staff and members of the Administration, reducing their salaries to no more than $150,000 per year.
  2. Immediately reduce their health care benefits to include that they pay at least one half their cost of premiums or opt out to acquire private insurance.
  3. Immediately reduce their retirement benefits to no more than those received by the maximum paid by social security benefits to those over the age of 65.

These stipulations will remain in effect until unemployment reaches the official level of at least 7.0%, recognizing of course, that actual  unemployment is much worse.

In addition, we demand that the Obama Justice Department and appropriate Congressional committees thoroughly investigate the alleged wrongdoing and potential criminal activities of financial institutions in the 2008 financial crisis.  We demand a formal response to the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission report.

Any negotiations for these conditions will occur with a representative of the population (a small committee)  to be appointed and agreed upon by an agreement of the signatures.
