It is encouraging to surf the web to find all of the groups which are beginning to mount their intense opposition to Obama’s attempt to rush the U.S. to it’s ultimate demise. Opposition is coming from progressives, Tea Party members, unions, some Republicans, many Democrats, i.e. across the political spectrum and those in all walks of life who have tried to learn what this is all about. The issue is whether to give Obama total authority to control our trade agreements, first by granting him Fast Track authority and then to ram agreements like TPP through for passage without debate. The reasoning for the opposition is sound and the President has told bold faced lies about it and has been confronted on both what he is saying and the secretive nature about how it has all been done. Thanks to the help from Wikileaks some of the information has been distribute by them. I regard Obama’ mistake in this action as a fatal one for his presidency. For example here is what we know about the draft agreements:
1. It will destroy this nation’s soverignty and that of other natioins participating.
2. It will turn over the entire rule of law to multinational corporations who can sue nation, states and agencies which impede or limit corporations who think their profits are being “restricted”.
3. It is, in effect, the creation of a worldwide corporate fascist system of government.
4. All trade laws can be written in secret and rammed through Congress with an Up or Down vote without amendments.
5. It will allow corporations to run rampant all over the world, raping and pillaging without control.
6. The Internet, food and environmental safety laws, worker protection laws, use of GMO’s without disclosure, health and nearly every aspect of our lives is directly impacted.
7. Worldwide issues involving income and wealth disparities will increase.
8. Huge job losses will occur without recourse to address job exportation will increase.
9. It will totally destroy our democracy or our democratic Republic.
Frankly whether Obama wins or loses the vote in Congress on this, millions of people will question almost anything he tries to do until the end of his term. They will be “mad as hell” and his legacy will be connected to this evil and dastardly deed.
(At the end of this blog and as this was being published, a couple of posts appeared online giving further evidence of the magnitude of the opposition.
It contains names of over 2000 organizations opposed to the bills in Congress being considered.)
Here are some brief videos and key references from diverse sources which substantiate these enormously destructive acts and Obama has told blatant lies about all of them:
HERE ARE SOME KEY REFERENCES WHICH HAVE BEEN PUBLISHED RECENTLY”
“The House is currently dozens of votes short of being able to pass legislation that would allow President Barack Obama to send trade deals to Congress for fast approval, according to senior lawmakers and aides in both parties, imperiling a top White House priority for the president’s final years in office.
At this point, upward of 75 House Republicans could vote against trade promotion authority if it comes up for a vote in the coming weeks, according to aides and lawmakers involved in the process. Some of the lawmakers fear job losses in their districts from free trade; others distrust Obama and oppose giving him more power.

House GOP leaders will begin officially canvassing for votes Friday, but they’ve been in private strategy sessions for weeks, learning about the intricacies of the bill from Ways and Means Chairman Paul Ryan (R-Wis.).
House Democrats, meanwhile, say just 12 to 20 of their lawmakers support Obama’s request.”
“Opponents of fast track trade authority from Popular Resistance, Public Citizen, Communication Workers of America and Friends of the Earth rallied on Capitol Hill to welcome Japanese Prime Minister Shinzō Abe as he came to speak to a Joint Session of Congress with a three story tall Trojan Horse. The theme of the protest was ‘No Fast Track for Secret Corporate Trade Deals’. Banners read “No Fast Track for Secret Trojan Treaties” and “Stop the TPP: Transparency Release the Text.” There were also signs in Japanese which said: “U.S. citizens stand in solidarity with Japanese citizens against the TPP” and “TPP = Trojan Horse”
The Trojan Horse protest was part of opposition to fast track which is growing and escalating its actions. Activists also published a letter this week that demonstrated the unprecedented breadth of the movement against corporate trade. The letter, signed by 2009 organizations showed a united movement of labor, environmental, family farm, consumer, faith, Internet freedom and other organizations that is escalating its campaign to defeat fast track trade authority for the TPP and other corporate rigged agreements.
Crossposted with The Greanville Post:
The motivation behind U.S. President Barack Obama’s trans-Pacific trade-deal TPP, and his trans-Atlantic trade-deal TTIP — the motivation behind both of these enormous international trade-deals — is the same, and Democratic U.S. Senators Elizabeth Warren and Sherrod Brown are correct: it is not at all progressive. It is instead to transfer political power away from the public in a democracy, and for that power to go instead to the international plutocracy (i.e., to go as far away from anynational democracy as is even possible to go).
This is to be done by switching the most fundamental thing of all: the global power-base itself. Instead of that power-base being democratic votes of the national publics, who elect their political representatives who determine the laws and regulations, that national democratic political system becomes instead the exact opposite: the global aristocratic stockholder votes of the international plutocracy who elect the corporate directors of international companies, who will, in their turn, then be selecting the members to the international-trade-panels which, in TPP and TTIP, will, in their turn, be determining the rules and enforcements regarding especially workers’ rights, product-safety, and the environment.

President Obama wants the world to know that he takes it personally that the Democratic Party’s base opposes his latest effort to sell out the people of the world to the worst corporations through the infamous Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) deal. Obama blurted out at a press conference a number of conservative Republican memes as his sole basis for pushing TPP. He then launched personal attacks on Senator Elizabeth Warren and labor leaders (without naming them). Obama, who is famous for keeping his cool when criticized by the GOP, is thin-skinned when criticized by Democrats. Obama never raged at the Republicans’ “death panel” attacks on him, but he raged at Warren as supposedly making an equivalently openly dishonest attack on TPP’s secret drafting process.
One of the most reprehensible aspects of TPP is that it is (still) being drafted in secret – that it from us, the people – but with corporate lobbyists literally drafting their wish list. Obama made the critical mistake of personally attacking Warren, which is roughly equivalent to a small town mayor launching a personal attack on Jon Stewart. You know the results will be that Stewart will wipe the floor with the mayor.
Or, to move the metaphor to Hollywood, the character playing the President in the movie The American Presidentwarns his political opponent to limit his attacks to the President rather than his girlfriend: “you better stick with me, ’cause Sydney Ellen Wade is way out of your league.” Warren is way out of Obama’s league in this arena of protecting the American people from CEOs’ frauds and abuses. Obama is the one who infamously told the bankers he was protecting them from the American people’s demands for the restoration of the rule of law so that the banksters would be held accountable for leading the fraud epidemics that drove the financial crisis and the Great Depression. Obama, being Obama, phrased that in the form of a vile slander of the American people, claiming that they wanted to use “pitchforks” rather than prosecutions.

The pro-big business President Barack Obama and his corporate allies are starting their campaign to manipulate and pressure Congress to ram through the “pull-down-on-America” Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), a trade and foreign investment treaty between 12 nations (Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Peru, Singapore, the United States and Vietnam).
The first skirmish is a fast track bill to have Congress formally strip itself of its constitutional authority to regulate trade and surrender this historic responsibility to the White House and its corporate lobbies.
Lest you think the TPP is too commercially complex to bother about, think again. This mega-treaty is the latest corporate coup-d’état that sacrifices the American consumer, labor and environmental standards — inventively called “non-tariff trade barriers” — and much U.S. sovereignty to the supremacy of corporate commercial trade.
No single column can adequately describe this colossal betrayal — camouflaged by phrases like “free trade” and “win-win agreements.” For comprehensive analysis of the TPP you can go to Global Trade Watch (http://www.citizen.org/trade/).
Newsletter: The Moment Has Arrived, Now Is The Time
This week’s newsletter will be brief because many members of the Popular Resistance team are in Massachusetts for the Northeast Climate Organizers Summit and we are heavily engaged in the work to stop fast track for the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP).
Resistance to Fast Track
After a more than three year campaign, the moment has arrived, now is the time. We are at the key battleground that will determine whether the TPP and other corporate trade agreements will become law. Fast track trade authority, as expected, passed the two committees of jurisdiction in the House and Senate. The next step is where we have always expected we could stop them, the full US House of Representatives.
On Wednesday, the Senate Finance Committee passed an amended version of fast track. This was expected because the Finance Committee is one of the most corrupt committeesin Congress taking more than $100 million from big business each election cycle. While the committee rejected amendments to protect ‘Buy American’ laws, one of the amendments that did pass was designed to restrict the BDS movement targeting Israel. The victory for us in the Senate was that the committee wanted to pass fast track in February, but was delayed for two months by our collective actions.

Opposition Amassing to ‘Outdated and Unsound’ Trade Policies
“With dissent fermenting on both sides of the political aisle, more than 2,000 civil society groups are urging Congress to reject Fast Track trade authority, warning that the legislation would pave the way for approval of the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP), the 12-nation proposal they say “replicates and expands on the most damaging provisions of past U.S. trade pacts.”
The joint letter (pdf), signed by 2,009 labor, environmental, family farm, consumer, faith, Internet freedom, and other groups, describes Fast Track authority—which would empower President Barack Obama to negotiate trade deals that could not be amended or filibustered in Congress—as “simply inappropriate given the scope of the pending agreements.”
After decades of massive trade deficits, devastating job loss, downward pressure on Americans’ wages, attacks on environmental and health laws and floods of unsafe imported food under our past trade agreements, America must chart a new course on trade policy. To accomplish this, a new form of trade authority is needed that ensures that Congress and the public play a much more meaningful role in determining the contents of U.S. trade agreements.
Fast Track is an abrogation of not only Congress’ constitutional authority, but of its responsibility to the American people.”

Over 2,000 Groups Urge Opposition to Fast Track April 27, 2015
Re: Please Oppose “The Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act” Dear Representative/Senator: The undersigned organizations urge you to oppose the Ryan-Hatch Fast Track bill formally dubbed “The Bipartisan Congressional Trade Priorities and Accountability Act of 2015.” This legislation would revive the outdated and unsound 2002 Fast Track “Trade Promotion Authority” mechanism. The same failed Camp-Baucus-Hatch trade authority proposal of last session is at the core of this bill, which would undermine Congress’ ability to have a meaningful role in shaping the contents of trade agreements. This year’s bill includes several negotiating objectives not found in previous Fast Track iterations. However, the Fast Track process that this legislation would reestablish ensures that these objectives are entirely unenforceable. If this legislation were enacted, the president could sign and enter into a trade agreement before Congress votes on it — whether or not the negotiating objectives have been met. It would allow the executive branch to write legislation, not subject to committee markup, that would implement the pact and be guaranteed House and Senate votes within 90 days, with all amendments forbidden and a maximum of 20 hours of debate, whether or not the agreement met Congress’ negotiating objectives……. Yves here. This post will serve to remind you: call your Representative (contact info here) and Senators (contact info here) today and tell them in no uncertain terms that you expect them to vote against Fast Track authority. This post provides more detail about the dangers of the Trans-Pacific Partnership and its evil twin, the TransAtlantic Trade and Investment Partnership. And you can read here about why Fast Track authority is a hazard to your political health.

To really appreciate what a travesty the TPP is, and the scandal of the failure of our Congress to reject it, and the “Fast Track Authority“ sought for it, out of hand, I’m going to list 23 negative consequences that would likely follow from it. Any one of these, would, by itself be sufficient for any representative of the people, Senator or Congressperson, to vote to kill it. I’ll offer this list in the form of stanzas appropriate for a chant, except for the starting point in the list.
