In 2016 Will Americans Finally Destroy the Political Duopoly? by Thomas Baldwin–2

“Throughout this election cycle, never forget this fundamental truth about the political Duopoly!”

For at least the last three years I have been writing and  calling for the destruction of the two party political duopoly.  Given the fact that the two parties seem to be destined to designate two of the most unpopular national figures to head up their parties and serve as presidential candidates, this may well be the year when it could happen. The Republican Party establishment is having trouble adjusting to the rise of Donald Trump.  And the Democratic Party with the Clinton corporate machine is struggling to discard Bernie Sanders and clear the way for a Hillary Clinton coronation.  It is a truly disgusting scene and this is likely to lead to a fervent opposition from the electorate. by the time the election nears.

In this composite blog I have assembled a number of past published blogs, most of which were published on the blog site, Progressive Activist Voice detailing the commonly recognized decay of our political system, that which has been thoroughly generated by the complete control of large corporations, the corporate media, the wealthiest elite,  and the political parties which have become subservient to ccrporatist powers. It has become a totally corrupted system beyond reform.  It must be attacked and brought to its knees by a populist movement.  The primary question will be whether a progressive movement can generate that required strength before a militant right wing force does that.

Short of millions of people demonstrating in the streets, a limited number of options are available to create the revolt which is necessary to bring about needed changed.  Hedges argues that it requires a movement to overthrow the corporate state.  I agree but the steps in that process require we overthrow the political forces–the duopoly–which maintains and enables the corporations and the wealthy to buy and rule the political forces.  The fundamental problem is the extreme desire for money and power to determine who rules.

Attacking the political system will require a number of tactics, including boycotting the election entirely or at least the duopoly, refusing to feed the beast by refusing to fund candidates, lending support to movements which represent progressive causes, active protests and non-compliance and/or civil disobedience on policy issues, support for “third party” candidates, etc.

Enjoy this assembly of articles which address various aspects of the revolt which is needed and discusses some of the solutions which must be considered.  Because this is a “system problem” no magic bullet will do the trick.  It will require a focused effort and a combination of various movements who can agree to work for common purposes.—–Thomas Baldwin

A Call to Action!

“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results.”– Albert Einstein

Duopoly: “preponderant influence or control by two political powers.”

Demolish: “to destroy by breaking apart; to put an end to.”

Corporate fascism (or Corporatism): “the complete merger of corporate and state entities to create a political entity.”

The United States is experiencing a serious crisis and most Americans know it. Our government and the Washington establishment is disintegrating at near breath taking speed. It could well be the most serious situation in at least a hundred years. For years now several authors have described our government in Washington as being “broken” or “dysfunctional”. But these words seem inadequate any longer.

It is much more like a “living” entity which is dying and is in a critical state; all vital signs are poor. Crises are generated in Washington from incompetence and corruption. Little or nothing gets done; few if any serious problems are addressed. Everything is addressed as “partisan.” But that is a delusion because as I will mention later there is really only one party with two different factions serving the corporate fascists. When the two factions finally agree on something, then it is called “bipartisan” because the two political parties appear to be constantly fighting over power and money. What, if anything, is to be done about this evil charade?

Why We Must DESTROY the two party Fascist Duopoly NOW!

Einstein image on insanityCorporate Fascism Dominates Our Political System

by Thomas Baldwin

Biloxi, MS  October 19, 2014 (Update)

Since writing this original blog on July 4, 2014 I have become convinced this has become an urgent matter to address the outrageous corruption and incompetence in our political system–both parties! I have previously discussed in several blogs how I believe that a strong united progressive movement is needed to form a foundation for a new political system.  It’s not happening and in the current or impending election there is only one rational choice.  It is to BOYCOTT the elections at the federal level and to declare them illegitimate, corrupt and illegal.  Only the citizens can do that and I urge your attention to the ELECTION BOYCOTT ADVOCATES organization to become a committed member.

Whether one uses the term Corporatocracy, Corporatism= Corporate Fascism or the Corporate State, these terms all mean a complete merger of the corporations with the state. One can also argue that a Plutocracy or Oligarchy in a capitalistic system also strongly signify a strong relationship between corporations and the wealthiest elite. Sheldon Wolin introduced a term “Inverted Totalitarianism“.  What all of these suggest is that the wealthiest elite have gained complete control of our government (the state) and rule; it is antithetical to a democracy where the people rule. These systems are completely incompatible and cannot coexist. Since our political system is totally dominated by two political parties (a duopoly) this means that the only people or bodies which control our government are the wealthiest elite who are part of a corporate structure. The term “duopoly” is even somewhat misleading because both parties are actually two wings of a Corporate Fascist “Party.” Thus, if we are going to make any significant changes in our system we must attack the source of the problem. The place to start, if we want to proceed peacefully, is to put an end to the political duopoly—destroy it! If two major businesses controlled all of the means of production and distribution of a product then antitrust laws would apply and the duopoly would be declared illegal. But in the U.S. the laws are written and passed by the political structure and they are quite happy to save their jobs in the current duopoly and protect it from competition. So the people have to do it! It is INSANE to keep voting for one of the two party candidates (the lesser of evils) and expecting any positive changes to occur. In previous blogs, I have written about“Why Americans Must Destroy the Political Duopoly….”  and create new alliances. If progressives want to have any influence in the political system they must unite various progressive organizations and possibly form a United Progressive “Party”.

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall (2): Who Is—Greediest? Most Power Hungry? Biggest Hawk? Most Dirty Energy? Most Corrupt but “Lesser Evil”?

Clinton and Blankfein

Introduction by Thomas Baldwin, February 14, 2016. This is a revised and updated version of a recent blog entitled:  “Mirror, Mirror on the Wall; Who is the Biggest ‘Political Whore’ of All?”
A few people objected to the coarse language but it was meant in the context of a politician without moral scrupples or principles and not to demean prostitution in a traditional context.  But Hillary Clinton has demonstrated that she has unlimited ambition to increase her power and her personal wealth along with her husband, Bill Clinton.  It would be a tragedy of major magnitude to have these two back in the White House now that the damage which was caused by Slick Willy’s presidency has become much better assessed.  In fact under the influence of a proven corrupt, corporate dominated Duopoly and Democratic Party, it would signify the ultimate destruction of the Republic.
This blog begins to document the unrestricted greed and thirst for power of what can only be labeled egomania at work in the political sector.  Americans must change that in 2016 and stop the total theft of our government.  And I have not really begun to address the imminent difficulty she is facing from a thorough FBI investigation and a possible indictment!  This debacle has the potential to make the Watergate affair and Nixon’s impeachment and resignation look like a picnic!

Chris Hedges: The Socialist Alternative – Chris Hedges – Truthdig

The Socialist Alternative–Posted on May 1, 2016

By Chris Hedges

Seattle City Council member Kshama Sawant responds to President Obama’s State of the Union address in January. (Socialist Alternative / YouTube)SEATTLE: The disintegration of the ruling political parties, along with the discrediting of the established political and economic elites, presage radical change.

This change may come from the right. It may result in a frightening proto-fascism. If it is to come from the left it must be pushed forward by dogged activists and citizens who are willing to accept that stepping outside the system will mean surrendering all hope of power for perhaps a decade. To continue to engage in establishment politics, especially attempting to work within the Democratic Party, will further empower corporate capitalism and extinguish what remains of our democracy.

Willingly entering the political wilderness requires a vision that is worth sacrificing and fighting to achieve. It means that some of those who begin the revolution against corporate capitalism will not live to see its culmination. It will mean marginalization, harassment, persecution, prison and, if the movement becomes effective, state violence. History has taught us that. But given the alternative—the planet’s ecosystem destroyed by the fossil fuel and the animal agriculture industries, greater pillaging by corporate oligarchs and the rise of a global security and surveillance system that takes from us all pretense of liberty—the battle is worth it.

Kshama Sawant, the socialist City Council member in Seattle, and her Socialist Alternative Party have begun to create change where it will first be most effective—locally. She has created a petition calling on Bernie Sanders to run as an independent presidential candidate through November on a third-party ticket. “With the rise of [Donald] Trump and the bigotry, racism and Islamophobia of the right wing, there is a temptation among people who are dejected about the low level of activism over the last few decades to feel that America is turning right-wing,” she said when we met in Seattle. “The earth-shattering momentum of the Sanders campaign belies that idea.”

Why I Support Dr. Jill Stein for President:  Chris Hedges

Chris Hedges:  “This is why I support Dr. Jill Stein, who is running to be the Green Party candidate for president after having won her party’s nomination in 2012. I support Stein because she understands that this is primarily about building a global movement, not about participating in an election. She, unlike Bernie Sanders, knows that this movement will never be realized within the Democratic Party or by paying deference to the power elites, the Israel lobby or the arms industry and the military establishment. She grasps that until we name and destroy the evil of militarism and imperialism, genuine social and political reform, indeed democracy, is impossible. She does not want to work within the corporate establishment. She wants to dismantle it. And all the pundits who tell us not to waste our vote miss the point. It is time to stop playing the game.”

The candidate, seeking the Green Party nomination, is the only presidential hopeful who understands that…

Hillary’s Corporate Democrats Taking Down Bernie Sanders by RALPH NADER

Republished from CounterPunch and The Nader Page.

Before announcing for President in the Democratic Primaries, Bernie Sanders told the people he would not run as an Independent and be like Nader—invoking the politically-bigoted words “being a spoiler.” Well, the spoiled corporate Democrats in Congress and their consultants are mounting a “stop Bernie campaign.” They believe he’ll “spoil” their election prospects.

Sorry Bernie, because anybody who challenges the positions of the corporatist, militaristic, Wall Street-funded Democrats, led by Hillary Clinton, in the House and Senate—is by their twisted definition, a “spoiler.” It doesn’t matter how many of Bernie’s positions are representative of what a majority of the American people want for their country.

What comes around goes around. Despite running a clean campaign, funded by small donors averaging $27, with no scandals in his past and with consistency throughout his decades of standing up for the working and unemployed people of this country, Sanders is about to be Hillaried. Her Capitol Hill cronies have dispatched Congressional teams to Iowa.

What Will Many Bernie Sanders Voters Do After July? by Ralph Nader

From The Nader Page.  Also appears at Dandelion Salad

March 4, 2016

The hard-bitten, corporatist Democrats are moving Hillary Clinton through the presidential primaries. They are using “Republican-speak” to beat down Bernie Sanders as favoring Big Government and more taxes and they may unwittingly be setting the stage for a serious split in the Democratic Party.

What is emerging is the reaction of millions of Sanders supporters who will feel repudiated, not just left behind, as the Clintonites plan to celebrate at the Democratic Convention in July. The political experience gained by the Sanders workers, many of them young, helped Sanders register primary victories over Hillary in Colorado, Oklahoma, Minnesota, Vermont and New Hampshire with their energy and votes. They came close in Nevada and Massachusetts and probably won in Iowa.

Hillary’s rhetoric has outraged Sanders’ supporters. She berates Sanders regularly for not being practical or realistic about his Medicare-for-all, breaking up big banks, a $15 minimum wage, a tax on Wall Street speculation and carbon and getting big money out of politics. Clinton’s putdowns exemplify why so many people who back Sanders want to defeat her. Clinton is the candidate of the status quo, favored over all other candidates from both parties by the Wall Street crowd and quietly adored by the military-industrial complex who see Generalissima Clinton as a militarist who would maintain the warfare state.

Democrat Robert Reich, former Secretary of Labor under Bill Clinton, derided this “We Shouldn’t Even Try” attitude common among many frightened Democrats. These are, in Reich’s words, “the establishment Democrats – Washington lobbyists, editorial writers, inside-the-Beltway operatives, party leaders and big contributors who have grown comfortable with the way things are.” These hereditary Democrat opinion-shapers tell their audiences that Hillary personifies experience and electability. They argue it is either Clinton or Trump or some other crazed Republican.

America’s Electoral Farce by Chris Hedges, June 2015

Everyone needs to read this excellent article by Chris Hedges again and again!

“I intend to devote no more time to the upcoming presidential elections than walking to my local polling station on Election Day, voting for a third-party candidate, most likely the Green Party candidate, and going home. Any further energy invested in these elections, including championing Bernie Sanders’ ill-advised decision to validate the Democratic Party by becoming one of its presidential candidates, is a waste of time.

Exploitation of man---by Republicans and Democrats

Every action we take now must be directed at ripping down the structures of the corporate state. This means refusing to co-operate. It means joining or building radical mass movements. It means carrying out sustained acts of civil disobedience, as Kayactivists are doing in Seattle and fishing communities such as Kodiak, Cordova and Homer, as well as a dozen indigenous tribes, are doing in Alaska, to physically halt fracking, drilling for oil and natural gas or U.S. Navy training exercises in the pristine waters of the Arctic. It means striking for a $15 minimum wage. It means blocking city streets to demand an end to the indiscriminate use of lethal force by militarized police, especially against poor people of color. It means, in large and small ways, acts of open rebellion. It means always having as the primary objective the disrupting and overthrowing of corporate power. It means not playing the game.

The corporate state seeks to get us to participate in the political charade of choreographed elections. It seeks to make us play by its rules. Our corporate media, flush with the dollars from political advertising, fills the airwaves with the ridiculous and the trivial. Candidates, pollsters, political strategists, pundits and celebrity journalists provide endless loops of banal and absurd “political” chatter, all of it a grotesque form of anti-politics. We will be bombarded with this propaganda, largely centered on the manufactured personalities of candidates, for many months. Tune it out. It means nothing. “
